CRP is a voluntary program that offers annual rental payments, incentive payments, and annual maintenance payments for certain activities, and cost-share assistance to establish approved cover on eligible cropland. The program encourages farmers to plant long-term resource conserving covers to improve soil, water, and wildlife resources. CRP makes available cost-share assistance in an amount equal to, but not more than 50 percent of the participants costs in establishing approved practices. Contract duration is between 10 and 15 years.
CRP offers several different practices under continuous signup periods. The most common practices include the following: Filterstrips Small Farmable Wetland Restorations Larger Wetland Restorations Field Windbreaks Grass Waterways Shelterbelts Living Snow Fences Riparian Buffers Wellhead Protection Areas
Landowners in Nobles County are eligible to receive between $90 and $170 per acre depending entirely on the practice enrolled and the soil types of the area enrolled. The Nobles County Farm Service Agency determines the eligible areas and the rental rate received. |
